§ 74153 Home Winegrape Exemption

• •If you grow grapes just to make wine for yourself at home, this law doesn’t apply to you.
• •If you make wine at home just for yourself, this law doesn’t apply to you.
• •But you have to tell the government (the commission) how you’re using the grapes by filling out a special paper (affidavit).
• •The government will check your paper and decide if it’s okay.

If you grow grapes in your backyard and make a few bottles of wine just to drink with your family, you don’t have to follow the usual wine rules.

You just need to fill out a form telling the government that the wine is only for you and your family. They’ll check it and say if it’s okay.
