§ 73052 Navel Orange Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •Navel oranges are a specific type of orange that have no seeds and a little bump (like a belly button) at the top.
  • •These oranges are usually sold for people to eat fresh, not for making juice or other products.
  • •The law defines what makes an orange a 'navel orange' so everyone knows which oranges fit this category.

Example

You go to the grocery store and see two types of oranges: one has seeds and is labeled for juicing, and the other has no seeds and a little bump at the top.

The one with no seeds and the little bump is a navel orange. The law says this is the kind you usually buy to eat as a snack, not to make juice.
