§ 6323 Fruit Fly Host Destruction

Key Takeaways

  • •If you bring certain plants, fruits, or vegetables into the state, they might carry bad bugs called fruit flies.
  • •These items will be destroyed right away if you don’t have a special permission (permit) from the state.
  • •If they get destroyed, you have to pay for it, not the state.
  • •Follow the rules set by the state’s director to avoid this problem.

Example

You order some exotic fruits online from another country to sell at your local store.

If those fruits can have fruit flies and you didn’t get a permit first, the state will make you throw them away and pay for it.
