§ 58890 Unfair Trade Practice Prohibitions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law helps stop unfair ways of buying, selling, or handling things like fruits, vegetables, or other products in the state.
  • •The boss in charge (called the director) can make rules to stop bad behavior that hurts fair business.
  • •Before making new rules, the director must listen to everyone involved—like farmers, sellers, and buyers—to decide what’s fair.
  • •The rules only apply to things happening inside the state.

Example

A big store pays farmers super late for their strawberries, making it hard for small farmers to stay in business.

The director can make a rule saying stores must pay farmers on time. If the store keeps paying late after the rule is made, they can get in trouble for being unfair.
