§ 58748 Commodity Quality Handling Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If there are rules about how good or big a product (like fruit or vegetables) must be, everyone who sells or handles it must follow those rules.
  • •You can't sell or process bad or too-small products, even if they come from another state.
  • •The rules don’t apply to products that were already being shipped when the rules started.

Example

A store buys apples from another state that are smaller than what the state rules allow.

The store can’t sell those small apples because they don’t meet the state’s size rules, even if they came from somewhere else.

Such regulations do not, however, apply to any commodity which has been produced outside of this state and is in transit on the effective date of the regulations. (Enacted by Stats. 1967, Ch. 15.)
