§ 57563 Lien Perfection Filing Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •A lien is a legal claim on someone's property if they owe you money.
  • •To make the lien official, you must file a special form with the Secretary of State.
  • •Once you file the form, the lien becomes active and can help you get paid.

Example

You fixed someone's car, but they didn’t pay you.

You can file a lien with the Secretary of State. This means if they try to sell the car, you can get your money first.
