§ 57516 Lien Claim Filing Form

Key Takeaways

  • •To claim a lien, you must use a special form from the Secretary of State.
  • •You can call yourself either a 'lien claimant' or a 'secured party' on the form.
  • •Only the person claiming the lien needs to sign the form, not the person who owes the money.
  • •Instead of describing what’s being used as security (like a car or house), you must include specific details about the debt or work done.

Example

A contractor fixes your kitchen but you don’t pay them.

The contractor can file a lien using the special form. They sign it themselves, call themselves the 'lien claimant,' and write down details about the kitchen work instead of describing your house.
