§ 45017 Avocado Harvest Weather Restrictions

Key Takeaways

  • •If bad weather hurts avocados, a group can ask the boss to stop picking them for a while.
  • •The boss can say yes and make rules about how long to wait, where this applies, and how bad the damage must be.
  • •The boss must tell farmers and people who sell avocados about the decision.
  • •Some farmers might get special permission to pick their avocados anyway.

Example

A big storm hits California and hurts a lot of avocados.

A group of avocado farmers can ask the boss to stop picking avocados for a little while so they can recover. The boss can say yes and make rules about how long to wait and where this applies. The boss must also tell all the farmers and sellers about this decision. Some farmers might still get to pick their avocados if they ask for special permission.
