§ 42823 Fresh Produce Seizure Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •Police can take fruits, nuts, or veggies if they think the rules about selling or moving them are broken.
  • •They can also take the boxes or trucks carrying these items to prove someone did something wrong.
  • •This only happens if the police think the rules in this part of the law are not being followed.

Example

A farmer is selling a big box of oranges, but the box has a fake label saying they are a different kind of orange.

The police can take the whole box of oranges and the fake label as proof that the farmer broke the rules about selling fruits.
