§ 41806 Unreturned Dehydration Fees

Key Takeaways

  • •If the government collects small fees for checking and approving food, they might not give the money back even if they should.
  • •The government can keep the small fees if returning them is too hard or not worth it.
  • •The kept money stays in a special fund for food and farming stuff.
  • •This money can be used later for food and farming work.

Example

A small farm pays a $5 fee to get their dried fruit checked. The government collects thousands of these small fees.

If giving back the $5 to each farm is too much work or costs more than the fee itself, the government keeps the money. They use it later for food safety programs instead of returning it.
