§ 33484 Dairy Farm Building Exemptions

• •If a dairy farm building is built following the rules at that time, it doesn’t have to be changed later if the rules update.
• •Old buildings can stay as they are, even if new rules say buildings must be different now.
• •This law protects farmers from having to rebuild just because the rules changed.

A farmer built a milking barn in 1970 following all the rules back then. In 2023, the state says new barns must have bigger doors.

The farmer doesn’t have to make the doors bigger because the barn was built the right way when it was made.
