§ 24748 License Renewal Late Fees

Key Takeaways

  • •If you don't pay your license renewal fee on time, you'll get a 10% extra charge on what you owe.
  • •You have 90 days after your license expires to pay the fee plus the extra charge. If you don't, your license will be taken away.
  • •The extra charge is only 10% of what you didn't pay on time, not the whole fee.

Example

Imagine your driver's license renewal fee is $100, and it's due on January 1st. You forget to pay it until February 1st.

Since you paid late, you'll have to pay the original $100 plus a 10% extra charge, which is $10. So, you pay $110 total. If you still don't pay by April 1st (90 days after January 1st), your license will be taken away.
