§ 19017 Livestock Establishment Sanitation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't run a food place without a license from the government.
  • •Your food place must be clean and safe for people to eat in.
  • •You have to follow the rules about how to build and equip your food place to keep it clean.
  • •You can't ignore orders from food inspectors.
  • •You can't throw away bad or spoiled meat in the wrong way.
  • •You can't lie on labels about what’s in meat or poultry products.

Example

A butcher shop sells meat with labels that say '100% Beef' but actually mixes in other meats.

This is breaking the law because the shop is lying on the label about what’s in the meat. The labels must tell the truth about what people are buying.
