§ 18849 Equine Meat Labeling Requirements

This law says you can't sell or transport horse meat or any part of a horse unless it's clearly labeled as horse meat and follows certain health rules.

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't sell or transport horse meat unless it's clearly labeled as horse meat.
  • •The label must follow specific rules set by the director.
  • •The horse meat must also follow health and safety rules.

Example

A butcher shop sells meat labeled as beef, but it's actually horse meat.

This is against the law because the meat isn't labeled correctly to show it's from a horse.
