§ 14604 Provisional Product Registration

• •Provisional registration can only be given for a product that is already registered and is being renewed.
• •The temporary registration can last up to six months, no longer.
• •All required fees must be paid before any provisional registration is issued.

A toy company’s doll is up for renewal of its safety registration. While the paperwork is being processed, the company pays the renewal fee and asks the secretary for a provisional registration so it can keep selling the doll for the next few months.

Because the company paid the fee, the secretary can issue a provisional registration that lasts no longer than six months, letting the company keep selling the doll while the full renewal is completed.
