§ 12534 Pesticide Residue Monitoring Program

This law says the director has to run a testing program to see what pesticide leftovers are on fruits and veggies that are going to be turned into food, and then give the results to the State Health Director.

Key Takeaways

  • •The director must set up a pesticide‑residue monitoring program for produce that will be processed.
  • •The program’s goal is to find out which pesticides are most likely to stay on the food and how much testing is needed.
  • •All results are shared with the State Director of Health Services to help target future sampling.

Example

A farm sends a bunch of strawberries to a jam factory. The director tests the strawberries for pesticide residues and finds that pesticide X shows up most often.

The test results are sent to the State Health Director so they know which pesticides to watch for and can decide where to focus future testing.
