§ 10952 Swine Feed Heating Requirements

This law says you have to boil any garbage before you feed it to pigs, or treat it the way the director’s rules say.

Key Takeaways

  • •All garbage must be boiled before being fed to swine.
  • •Boiling means heating the garbage to about 212°F and keeping it at that temperature for 30 minutes.
  • •If you don’t boil it, you must follow another treatment method that the director’s rules allow.

Example

A farmer collects kitchen scraps and wants to give them to his pigs.

Before the farmer can feed the scraps to the pigs, he must heat them up to a full boil (about 212°F) and keep them boiling for 30 minutes, unless the director’s regulations allow a different safe treatment.
