§ 10725 Cleaned Disinfected Swine Transport

This law says that any pigs brought into the state for anything other than being killed right away have to travel in clean, disinfected crates or vehicles that meet USDA rules.

Key Takeaways

  • •Only pigs not headed for immediate slaughter are covered.
  • •They must be moved in crates, cars, trucks, or other vehicles that are clean and disinfected.
  • •The cleaning must follow the standards set by the USDA's Agricultural Research Service.

Example

A farmer imports live pigs to start a breeding program and drives them into the state in a truck.

Because the pigs aren't being slaughtered immediately, the truck must be washed and disinfected according to USDA standards before the pigs are loaded, otherwise the farmer could be breaking the law.
