§ 722 Court Expert Witness Disclosure

Key Takeaways

  • •If a judge picks an expert to help in court, everyone in the trial can know that the judge chose them.
  • •If someone pays an expert to talk in court, the other side can ask how much they paid. This helps decide if the expert is telling the truth or just saying what they’re paid to say.

Example

In a car crash trial, the judge picks a doctor to explain how bad the injuries are.

The other side can ask how much the doctor is being paid to testify. If they’re getting a lot of money, the jury might think they’re not being totally fair.
