§ 9020 Petition Signer Information Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •You must sign your name, print your name, and write your full address (including city) on a petition.
  • •If the petition doesn’t have a special money info sheet, it must say in big letters: 'DO NOT SIGN UNLESS you have seen Official Top Funders sheet and its month is still valid.'
  • •Only people who are registered to vote can sign the petition.
  • •The person collecting signatures can decide how many signatures go on each page.

Example

Your neighbor asks you to sign a petition to build a new park.

You must write your name, print your name, and put your full address. If the petition doesn’t show who’s paying for it, it must have a big warning in capital letters before you sign. If you’re not registered to vote, you can’t sign it at all.

(3) The signer’s residence address, giving street and number, or if no street or number exists, adequate designation of residence so that the location may be readily ascertained. (5) If the petition does not include the disclosure statement described by subdivision (b) of Section 107, the following text on a separate horizontal line below the signer’s printed name and above the signer’s signature: “DO NOT SIGN UNLESS you have seen Official Top Funders sheet and its month is still valid.” The text “DO NOT SIGN UNLESS” shall be in all capitals and in boldface. The other text shall be capitalized as shown and shall not be in boldface. (b) Only a person who is a qualified registered voter at the time of signing the petition is entitled to sign it.
