§ 8225 Petition Signature Verification

Key Takeaways

  • •After checking the petition, the elections official must write a certificate with the results.
  • •If enough people signed the petition, the official must give it to the board of supervisors right away or at their next meeting.
  • •The certificate must show the date it was checked.

Example

A group of people in a town want a new park. They collect signatures on a petition to ask the government for it.

After the elections official checks the petition and sees that enough people signed it, they write a certificate with the date and the number of signatures. Then, they give the petition to the board of supervisors at their next meeting so they can decide what to do about the park.
