§ 8040 Candidate Declaration Form

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want to run for office, you must fill out a form saying who you are, where you live, and what job you want.
  • •You must promise to accept the job if you win and not quit unless the law allows it.
  • •You have to show your political party choice (or say you don’t have one) and share your party history for the last 10 years.
  • •If you’re running for judge or a job where your home address is secret, you don’t have to put your address on the form.

Example

Jane wants to run for city council.

Jane fills out the form with her name, address, and what job she wants. She promises to take the job if she wins and shares her party choice. She signs it in front of a notary to prove it’s really her.
