§ 7354 County Committee Endorsement Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •The big state group (state central committee) can stop or limit the smaller local groups (county central committees) from picking or supporting a candidate for the California Republican Party in the main election.
  • •If the local group breaks the rules of the big state group, the big state group or any voter can go to court to stop them.
  • •The court can make a quick decision to stop the local group from supporting a candidate if they are breaking the rules.

Example

Imagine the California Republican Party's big state group has a rule that says local groups can't pick a favorite candidate before the main election. But the local group in Sacramento picks a candidate anyway.

The big state group can go to court to stop the Sacramento group from supporting that candidate. The court will make a quick decision to make sure the rules are followed before the election happens.

All cases of this nature shall be in a preferred position for purposes of trial and appeal, so as to ensure the speedy disposition thereof. (Repealed and added by Stats. 2007, Ch. 60, Sec. 3.
