§ 6846 Write-In Delegate Certification

Key Takeaways

  • •If a write-in candidate doesn't give a list of their delegates on time, their party has to do it for them.
  • •The party has 10 days after the deadline to give the list to the Secretary of State.
  • •The delegates picked by the party don't have to support any specific candidate.

Example

Imagine someone named Alex runs for office as a write-in candidate but forgets to send in their list of delegates by the deadline.

Alex's political party then has 10 days to send in a list of delegates to the Secretary of State. These delegates can choose to support whoever they want at the convention.
