§ 6382 Presidential Primary Signature Timing

Key Takeaways

  • •You can only collect signatures for a presidential candidate between 120 and 81 days before the primary election.
  • •If you start too early or too late, the signatures won’t count.
  • •This rule was updated in 2019 to make the timing clearer.

Example

If the presidential primary is on March 5th, you can start collecting signatures on November 5th of the previous year.

If you try to get signatures on October 1st (too early) or after January 14th (too late), they won’t be valid.
