§ 2404 Voter Registration Agency Oversight

Key Takeaways

  • •The Secretary of State must work with local voting offices to make sure they follow the rules for registering voters.
  • •They must create simple guides to teach these offices how to do their job correctly.
  • •If a voting office isn’t following the rules, the Secretary of State can check on them and help fix the problem.
  • •The Secretary of State can also share the results of these checks online so everyone knows what’s happening.

Example

Imagine your local DMV isn’t giving people voter registration forms like they’re supposed to.

The Secretary of State would step in, remind them of the rules, and even visit to make sure they start doing it right. If they still don’t fix it, the Secretary of State can post online that this DMV isn’t following the rules.
