§ 19291 Remote Voting System Changes

This law says that once a mail‑in voting system is approved by the Secretary of State, you can’t change it unless you tell the Secretary in writing and they decide the change won’t hurt its accuracy or speed.

Key Takeaways

  • •Approved mail‑in voting systems stay the same until the Secretary of State gives written permission for a change.
  • •The Secretary must be told in writing about any change and must decide the change won’t hurt accuracy or efficiency.
  • •The Secretary can set rules about how to decide if a change is okay.

Example

A county wants to add a new barcode scanner to its mail‑in ballot counting system.

The county must write to the Secretary of State, and the Secretary must say the new scanner won’t make counting less accurate or slower before the county can use it.
