§ 19287 Remote Voting System Certification

This law says the Secretary of State must give the public 30 days to look at and talk about a mail‑in voting system before deciding to approve it, and must tell people how to see the decision.

Key Takeaways

  • •30‑day public review and hearing before any certification decision.
  • •Notice must be given in a Sacramento newspaper, on the Secretary’s website, and by written letters to counties and anyone who asks.
  • •The final decision must be written, explain the reasons, and be open for anyone to read.

Example

A company builds a new mail‑in voting system and asks the state to certify it so it can be used in elections.

The Secretary of State has to announce a 30‑day public review, put a notice in a Sacramento newspaper, post it online, and send letters to county election officials. During that time anyone can read test reports and speak at a hearing. After the review the Secretary writes a decision that anyone can read.
