§ 19201 Voting System Conditional Approval

This law lets the Secretary of State give temporary approval to a voting system or part of it, even if it was previously decertified or needs updates, and allows adding extra conditions or canceling that approval at any time.

Key Takeaways

  • •Conditional approval can be granted after a system is decertified or after it is modified to meet new standards.
  • •The Secretary can attach additional conditions to that approval.
  • •The Secretary can withdraw the conditional approval at any time.

Example

A county wants to use a voting machine that was previously decertified because it didn't meet new standards.

The county updates the machine to meet the new standards, and the Secretary of State can give it conditional approval with extra rules, even though it was once decertified.
