§ 15628 Recount Notice Requirements

This law says the elections official must put up a public notice at least one day before a vote recount starts and must tell certain people about it.

Key Takeaways

  • •A notice must be posted at least one day before the recount begins.
  • •The notice must include the date and place of the recount.
  • •The elections official must personally deliver or mail the notice to candidates, presidential electors’ reps, initiative supporters, and the Secretary of State.

Example

After a tight mayoral race, the city announces a recount. The elections office puts up a sign saying when and where the recount will happen and sends a letter to the mayoral candidates, the groups that backed ballot measures, and the state Secretary of State.

The notice lets everyone know the recount details, and the officials make sure the candidates and other interested parties get the information as required by the law.
