§ 12110 Municipal Election Nominee List

This law says the city elections official must put out a list of all the people running for office at least one week before the election, either in a local newspaper or posted in three public spots if there’s no newspaper.

Key Takeaways

  • •The list must be published at least one week before the election.
  • •If a newspaper exists, the list goes in that paper; if not, it must be posted in three public places.
  • •The list must show each candidate’s name, the office they’re running for, and be headed “Nominees for Public Office.”

Example

A small town has no newspaper. The elections official types up the list of candidates and hangs copies at the city hall, the public library, and the post office a week before the vote.

Because there’s no newspaper, the official follows the rule to type the list and post it in three public places so everyone can see who is running before the election day.
