§ 10304 Commissioner Appointment And Oaths

This law says the Governor gives a written commission to new commissioners, which proves they were appointed correctly, and the commissioners must take an oath, pick a president and secretary, and keep signed meeting notes.

Key Takeaways

  • •The Governor’s commission is proof that the commissioners were appointed properly.
  • •Commissioners must take an oath within 10 days and file a copy with the Secretary of State.
  • •They must elect a president and secretary from among themselves.
  • •They must keep minutes of every meeting, signed by the president and secretary.

Example

A state wildlife agency hires three new commissioners. The Governor sends them each a commission letter, they swear an oath within ten days, choose one of them to be the president and another to be the secretary, and then write down what they talk about at each meeting, signing the notes at the end.

The commission letter shows the appointments were done right, the oath makes them official, the election picks leaders, and the signed notes keep a record of what they decided.
