§ 10230 Municipal Election Filing Deadlines

This law says that if a city changes the date of its general election, the deadline to sign up as a candidate stays the same as the usual filing deadline for that election.

Key Takeaways

  • •Changing the election date does not change the filing deadline.
  • •The filing deadline matches the regular nomination period for the consolidated election.
  • •This rule applies even if other sections would normally set a different deadline.

Example

A city moves its November election to December because of a holiday.

Even though the election date is moved, the time to file candidacy paperwork is still the same as the normal filing deadline for that election.
