§ 94195 Pledge Validity And Enforcement

Key Takeaways

  • •If a private college or nonprofit promises to use their money or earnings for something, that promise is serious and starts right away.
  • •The money they promised can't be taken by anyone else, even if someone sues them or says they owe money.
  • •They don’t have to write it down or tell anyone officially— the promise still counts.

Example

A small private college promises to use money from tuition to build a new library.

Even if the college gets sued later, the money for the library is protected and must be used for that. No one can take it away, even if they didn’t know about the promise.
