§ 92612 Employee Record Access Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •You can see your own personal info in your work records at the University of California.
  • •If someone wrote a secret letter about your job (like for a promotion), you can see the letter but not who wrote it.
  • •This rule doesn’t apply to secret info given before 1979.
  • •The University of California only follows this rule if its leaders agree to it.

Example

A professor at the University of California wants to see their work file to check their performance reviews.

The professor can look at their own file, but if there’s a secret letter about their promotion, they’ll see the letter without the name of who wrote it.
