§ 88121 Employee Protection From Demotion

Key Takeaways

  • •If you have a permanent government job, you can't be fired or moved to a lower job unless there's a good reason.
  • •The good reason must be something that makes the job not work well, like not doing your job or breaking important rules.
  • •You can still lose your job if there's not enough work or money, even if you did nothing wrong.

Example

A person works in a government office and always shows up late, misses deadlines, and ignores their boss's instructions.

This person can be fired because their bad behavior makes the office work poorly. The rules say this is a good reason to let them go.
