§ 88081 Classified Service Employment Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •This law sets rules for how schools handle jobs like hiring, firing, promotions, and pay for non-teaching staff (like janitors or office workers).
  • •It covers things like job applications, tests, time off, and even letting go of workers who aren’t a good fit.
  • •If the school has a union agreement for these workers, those rules must match what the union and school agreed on.

Example

A school wants to hire a new janitor.

The school must follow the rules in this law—like posting the job, giving a fair test, and picking the best person. If the janitors have a union, the school must also follow any special hiring rules in their union contract.
