§ 88078 Community Representative Exemptions

Key Takeaways

  • •Some jobs for community representatives (like advisors or consultants) don’t have to follow the usual hiring rules.
  • •These jobs can only last up to 90 work days in a year.
  • •The job must be different from regular jobs in the system.
  • •The job must be approved by the personnel commission before hiring.
  • •Regular employees can’t take these jobs at the same time as their normal job.

Example

A community college wants to hire a local business owner to advise on a new program for 3 months.

This job can skip the normal hiring process because it’s temporary (less than 90 days), different from regular jobs, and approved ahead of time. But if a current college employee wants this job, they can’t do it while keeping their regular job.
