§ 87001 Community College Academic Employees

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines who is an 'academic employee' in community colleges.
  • •An 'academic position' is any job that needs special qualifications set by the college board.
  • •Old terms like 'certificated employee' now mean the same as 'academic employee' in community colleges.
  • •This change doesn’t affect retirement benefits for these employees.

Example

A teacher at a community college who has a special degree to teach.

This teacher is called an 'academic employee' because their job needs special qualifications. Even if old laws call them something else, this law says they are the same.
