§ 81472 Property Exchange Appraisal Board

Key Takeaways

  • •When two groups want to swap land, they each pick one person to decide how much the land is worth. A third person is picked by the county school boss.
  • •The two groups must agree on how much to pay these three people for their work.
  • •The school district pays for its own appraiser and half of the county's appraiser's pay.
  • •The appraisers write a report saying how much each piece of land is worth. If one land is worth more, the owner of the cheaper land might have to pay money to make it fair.

Example

Imagine your school wants to swap its old playground with a neighbor's empty lot to build a new gym.

Your school picks one person to say how much the playground is worth, and the neighbor picks another person to say how much the empty lot is worth. The county school boss picks a third person to help. They all get paid, and your school pays for its person and half of the county's person's pay. If the empty lot is worth more, your school might have to pay the neighbor some money to make the trade fair.
