§ 81250 Community College Waiver Requests

Key Takeaways

  • •Community colleges can ask for special permission to ignore certain rules if they have a good reason.
  • •They must hold a public meeting to talk about it before asking.
  • •If the rule change involves selling or renting college land, they must tell nearby cities and groups 30 days before the meeting.

Example

A community college wants to rent out an old building to a local business, but the rules say they can't do that.

The college can hold a public meeting to explain why they want to rent the building. They must also tell the city and other local groups about the meeting 30 days ahead. If everyone agrees, they can ask the state for permission to ignore the rule and rent the building.
