§ 78020 Community College Course Definitions

• •Contract education is when a community college makes a deal with a company or group to teach classes or provide services.
• •Credit classes are any classes that give college credit, even if the college doesn’t get money from the state for them.

• •Not-for-credit classes are fun or helpful classes that don’t give college credit and don’t get state money.

A local hospital wants its nurses to learn new skills, so it pays a community college to teach a special class just for them.

This is contract education because the college made a deal with the hospital to teach the nurses. If the nurses get college credit for the class, it’s a credit class. If not, it might be noncredit or not-for-credit, depending on the rules.
