§ 76034 Student Discipline Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •Students can only be punished (like suspended or expelled) for things they do that are connected to school or school activities.
  • •If a student does something bad that has nothing to do with school, the school can't punish them for it.
  • •This rule doesn't stop schools from following other important laws, like federal laws.

Example

A student gets into a fight at a party that has nothing to do with school.

The school can't suspend or expel the student for this fight because it didn't happen at school or during a school activity.
