§ 74100 District Territory Transfer Petition

Key Takeaways

  • •To move land from one school district to another, you need to ask the county school boss first.
  • •You need either 25% of voters in the area to sign a paper OR most of the school board members to agree.
  • •If the land is in more than one district, 25% of voters in each part must sign.

Example

A neighborhood wants to switch from School District A to School District B because the schools are closer.

At least 25% of the voters in that neighborhood must sign a paper asking for the change. If they don’t get enough signatures, the school boards of both districts could vote instead.
