§ 72508 Parental Liability For Minor Drivers

Key Takeaways

  • •If your kid takes a driver training course at a community college, the school must tell you if you could be responsible for any accidents they cause.
  • •The school must explain what insurance they have for the cars used in the course and what it doesn’t cover.
  • •If the school’s insurance doesn’t cover everything, you might have to pay for damages your kid causes.

Example

Your 16-year-old takes a driving class at the local community college. During a lesson, they accidentally crash the training car into a fence.

The school must tell you ahead of time that if your kid causes a crash, you might have to pay for the damages, especially if the school’s insurance doesn’t cover everything.
