§ 7054 Public Resources Election Neutrality

Key Takeaways

  • •Schools and community colleges can't use their money or stuff to support or oppose any candidate or ballot measure.
  • •They can share facts about ballot measures, like bonds, but it must be fair and not take sides.
  • •Breaking this rule can lead to jail time or a fine.

Example

A school principal uses school computers to print flyers supporting a local politician running for school board.

This is not allowed because the school is using its resources to support a candidate, which breaks the rule.
