§ 7008 Disabled Teacher Health Benefits

Key Takeaways

  • •If a teacher gets hurt badly because of a violent attack while working, they can keep their school's health and dental insurance, but they have to pay for all of it themselves.
  • •The same rule applies to some school workers and local police officers if they get hurt badly from a violent attack while working.
  • •This rule does not apply if the school district has a special health care deal with the Public Employees’ Retirement System.

Example

A teacher gets seriously injured while trying to stop a fight at school.

The teacher can still use the school's health and dental insurance, but they have to pay the full cost, not just their usual part.
