§ 69655 Community College Program Data

Key Takeaways

  • •The law says the Chancellor of California Community Colleges must create a big list of information (a database) to check how well special help programs (EOPS) are working.
  • •This list must show how many students in these programs finish school, get certificates, transfer to bigger schools, or get jobs compared to students not in these programs.
  • •The Chancellor has to work with other schools and groups to get this information.
  • •Every year, starting in 1987, the Chancellor must tell the government how many students are helped by these programs and how many reach their school goals.

Example

Imagine two students, Alex and Jamie. Alex is in a special help program (EOPS) at a community college, and Jamie is not. The school keeps track of who finishes their classes, transfers to a bigger school, or gets a job.

The law says the school must count how many students like Alex (in EOPS) and Jamie (not in EOPS) finish their goals. Then, they have to tell the government every year how well the program is helping students like Alex.
