§ 69414 Student Financial Aid Advances

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can give money early to schools to help students pay for college on time.
  • •Schools get money for students who plan to attend, but not all of it—some is held back in case students don’t show up.
  • •The school must give the money to students following the rules they agreed to with the government.

Example

A student signs up for college in the fall, and the school gets money from the government to help pay for their classes.

The government sends the school most of the money early so the student can pay for classes on time. But if some students don’t actually go to class, the school doesn’t get all the money upfront.
