§ 52413 Environmental Internship Academic Credit

Key Takeaways

  • •If you finish a summer environmental program and write a good report, you might get school credit to help you graduate.
  • •While in the program, you could be treated like a temporary worker for things like social security or workers’ compensation.
  • •The program might count you as an employee of the school or the county, not just the program itself.

Example

A high school student works in a summer program helping to clean up a local park.

If the student finishes the program and writes a report about their work, they might get extra credits to graduate. While working, if they get hurt, they could be covered by workers’ compensation like a regular employee.
